In light of a recent safety announcement by the federal Food and Drug Administration, U.S. regulators are reviewing the safety of the diabetes medication, Avandia, which is made by GlaxoSmithKline.
GlaxoSmithKline, which has significant operations in the Philadelphia region, is now coming to the forefront in raising concerns among Pa personal injury lawyers.
Concerns about Avandia essentially relate to the fact that the drug presents an increased heart attack risk. As a result, Pennsylvania personal injury attorneys and products liability attorneys across the nation have filed personal injury lawsuits against the drug maker. GlaxoSmithKline faces up to $6 billion in personal injury lawsuits relating to Avandia and its purported side effects.
And due to the health concerns over Avandia, diabetes patients and families of those using Avandia are flocking to the Internet and other sources in search of answers relating to the side effects of Avandia, and relating to any potential legal remedy available in light of the potential side effects.
And while injuries need to be more than speculative in order to bring a personal injury lawsuit, the health concerns and research studies surrounding Avandia do not make the situation any easier for GlaxoSmithKline's attorneys to mitigate. Indeed, the pharmaceutical giant had better amass a team of reputable and strong corporate attorneys as well as Pennsylvania personal injury attorney; as their cases are set for trial in Pennsylvania in June.
Until then, those who have been affected by Avandia and those who have concerns about Avandia should speak to a Pa personal injury lawyer. There is also a release available from the FDA, outlining the situation and the risks of Avandia.
